Mata di, mater dei

I am no linguist, but I was just thinking about the similarities between "mata di" and "mater dei" (Latin for mother of God). And I'm pretty sure that Sanskrit and Latin are assumed to derive from a common proto-language. Anybody have any insight?

I was raised in a Catholic family and I keep coming across concepts, stories, traditions, etc in Vedic religions that are really similar to things I learned about as a kid. The stories of Manu and Noah are a good example of this, as are praying to saints and the rosary (of course, malas are part of many traditions). I'm sure a lot of research has been done on this...have any of you read anything about this?
