Kali Sahasranama

topic posted Thu, January 3, 2008 - 12:38 AM by  Saul
So, one of my current projects is to memorize the Kali Sahasranama. However, I've found variances in a few different recordings and texts. Does anyone have a link to, or list of books that have the Kali Sahasranama in Devanagari? I'd like to compare as many versions as I can, study the differences, and figure out which one is correct.

well, I purchased Shree Maa's recording of the Sahasranama and I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. there is way too much classical piano and singing. the other recording I have has a chanting guide for the text and recites a Stotram before the chanting, which is very structured and clear. this one is basically singing and music.

Can the Lalita Sahasranama be considered as effective as Kali sahasranama? I am a Kali devotee but am attached to Lalita sahasranama. I would welcome any insight on this issue regs bala

that is a question for only you to answer. if one says yes it is their opinion. if one says no it is what works for them and not necessarily yourself. try it and find out =) there are as many paths to god as there are individuals.

It depends. Lalitha and Kali are two different manifestations of the Goddess. Lalitha is considered to be one of the Highest of Goddesses containing the power of all other Goddeses according to Shri Vidya. The Lalitha Saharanama includes a vast variety of names for the Goddess, and many of them are also epithets of Kali. They are not the same, but according to Shri Vidya, Lalitha is the power and shakti of every goddess, and her male aspect (commonly reffered to as a consort). It all depends on what you Guru tells you to do. I personally believe you shouldn't chant the names of any deity unless you have been throroughly trained in how to chant it properly, and how to do preparations for it. For example many perform nyasas and say certain preambles before reciting any sahasranamas, stotrams, etc. It also depends on if you are doing it as sadhana or just doing it as bhakti/devotion. Devotion does not have the kind of rigorous formulae that tantra and sadhana does. Bhakti should always just be an outpouring of intense emotion and love for a deity. Where as a Sadhana is an intense rigorous formulae to absorb a diety.

All the mantras, tantras & yantras are to awaken your inner self. If you try anything out of these they will finally lead you to it .May be in between you get some extra ordinary powers in respect to your ways. All paths like bhakti yoga, laya yoga, raj yoga, asthang yoga and other type of yogas are to make you familiar with your inner self.
it depends on the nature and choice of a sadhak which path he/she choice. But it is sure that with out inner awakening you can not librate.
