It is actually a few weeks away...Oct. 28th (by some calendars)
In some traditions there is a Kali-Puja associated with Diwali
Do you celebrate it? There is a New-Moon ritual and celebration of the drinking of the blood of
Raktabija, the Blood Demon in the Devi Mahatmyam
What else do you know about this holiday and how to participate in it?

Re: Diwali approaches
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 4:30 PMOn Oct 9 is Dussehra or Durga Puja, which I think is the most auspicious of festivals for Kaali Ma. It's at the end of the autumn Navaratri (9 nights). Not really answering your question, but thought I would throw that out there.

Fri, September 12, 2008 - 10:41 AMKali-puja at any time can be performed. Even before Diwali or before Dashahara. Maa can be approached anytime. It is true that Diwali Dashahara are for celebration. -

Re: Diwali approaches
Sun, September 14, 2008 - 8:35 PMI've never been good with any sort of ritual. Last year, (for Diwali) I made offerings of chocolates, candles and meditated. I think I may have smudged my apartment as well (though I could be mixing that up with Samhain/Halloween).
Spring Navaratri 07 I became a vegetarian and have been one since (though today I accidentally ate something with chicken...ick). Last Spring I tried to be vegan (sort of). I think I will do the same for the Autumnal as well. Though, hopefully with better success. -

Re: Diwali approaches
Tue, September 30, 2008 - 4:55 AMHello everybody!
I've been reading this forum for a while, and I felt like participating today, on the "Eve" of Navratri/Durga Puja.
I honor the Dark Mother by meditating on her, and by sacrificing negative, low energies at the live gigs where I'll be playing in the next few weeks. I'm also interested in hearing how people worship her, especially inside the Tantric tradition?
Mother Kali's radiant presence is here, in the summer that is dying and in "the flaming shades of fall". In my personal life, this 1st of October marks many new beginnings, as well as endings. Because these exoteric and esoteric cycles respond so strongly to this year's Navratri celebration, I just want to say "Victory to the Mother!" and to ride the current... She is everywhere, as a merciless destroyer whose furious beauty we are afraid of.
She brings confusion, only to guide us towards her and to show us that we still have to learn, learn to embrace emptiness. We look for her, but at the same time we refuse to let her burn our hearts into ashes. Longing for freedom but not ready for it. Not yet.
